QUICK SIP: Mill Creek Vineyards and Winery | Merlot | Kreck Vineyards | Alexander Valley | Sonoma County | California | 2009 | $28 | 89 pts

Mill CreekMill Creek is a small estate winery owned and operated by three generations of the Kreck family.  Founders Bill and Yvonne Kreck planted their vineyards in 1965, and in 1974 established the winery in Healdsburg at the southern end of Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley.  The Krecks crafted this wine from Merlot sourced from their home property in nearby Alexander Valley.  It is a flavorful red, featuring aromas of black cherry, herbs, and quince paste with pretty floral hues; followed by flavors of black cherry, clove, bitters, and cedar.  Sporting a medium to full body, the wine has firm acidity, medium tannins, and well-integrated oak.  Pair it with robust cheeses, grilled meat, beef stroganoff, and braised short ribs.  We highly recommend this wine, and hope you will seek it out by visiting the winery virtually at www.millcreekwinery.com.  The next time you’re in Sonoma County, drop by and pay the Krecks a visit; the tasting room is quaint and the experience is personal and friendly.
